My Mum is an artist, and a damned good one too. I remember as a kid her being pretty creative in play and the games we'd do. She always encouraged us to read and draw and create. Neither my brother and I are very clever at any creative. I love scrapping but I dont' think I am any Suz Doyle or Cathy Zeileske or Alli Edwards if you know what I mean...I have lots of creative ideas but I think I am probably more academic. Anyway....it turns out it may skip a generation. My kids are very creative and both love to draw and write.
Aria is currently trying very hard to write. She gets frustrated easily as she does with anything that she doesn't master immediately. Seems she is one of those people who can do things right away without much effort, so anytime she doesnt' get it right away she gets pretty cranky. We do writing together everyday and she's making a lot of progress for a just- four year old.

Lucio has been 'making books' for as long as i can remember. As the years have passed, the books and the techniques have become more and more elaborate. He has created characters and has developed them with so much detail, I think he has all of us (including himself) convinced they are real. He can tell very involved stories about them and link them to both real and imagined events.
He is very proud of his art materials - very protective of some colour pens he has at the moment that he cherishes.
So when Nanna arrived yesterday, she brings this DVD for the kids....Drawing with Einstein and Faber Castell. No Dora or Bananas in Pajamas for this grandma! And the kids were mesmerised...this is them with Nanna watchign the DVD the first time...then later, after their baths, they watched it again and then proceeded to draw and apply the new skills and techniques they'd learnt. Nanna was a very good advisor - the wine helps!

They look absolutely absorbed in that first photo. Abby likes to draw (certainly didn't get that from me) while J.T. prefers to build and do more math-oriented things. Now if I could just get Abby to stick to drawing on paper and not floors, walls, and cabinets!
