Lucio has been learning all about bugs at school this term. The culminating activity was a bug ball. I kept asking Lucio what he wanted to go as and how we would do his costume. His reply was always the same, "I am going to be a spider mum...I'll be spiderman". I thought it was a tad unoriginal so every so often gave the gentle prod with some (I thought) very creative ideas....but no, he was hell bent on wearing his spiderman suit (I think they are pajamas, but don't tell him that) and his spiderman mask.
Aria, on the other hand, caught on real quick. Any excuse for a trip to the 'fairy store' (A local dreamy girlie shop with lots of costumes and tutus) ..... and we found a ladybug get up for her. I love that Lucio's teacher encouraged Aria to be involved too. I have found her interest in school to increase so much this year and I really think it's because his teacher involves her and has shown her how fun a classroom learning environment can be. Even though she's only 4, she's spends a lot of time there with me on my days off when I help in the class.

Anyway....so on said Bug Ball day, Lucio was very happy to be spiderboy. I gotta tell you, I was partly relieved that I didnt' have to spend hours making antenae's and furry legs for some bug creation. But apparently, there are some rockin' parents out there - I was so gobsmacked with the effort that was put in to costumes. I seriously was amazed with the creativity. I have since discovered that this Bug Ball has been a grade 2 tradition of this school for many years, so I guess siblings have learnt and seen and been previously inspired.
The kids did a big parade for all the parents and teachers and then they performed some dances (see Lucio dancing with a teacher!!) and then parents were invited up to dance the bug dance with the kids. A lovely idea I thought, and I am no shrinking violet, but let me tell you, the parents went off. There were some serious groovers.
Lucio loved it. I feel so blessed that he has had such a great year. I love his teacher. I hope his grade 3 teacher is as good. She has a lot to live up to.

Lady bug costume is so gorgeous!
I actually got crafty today and sewed a special dress for Bella. She had to have a pretty Christmas dress for our annual visit to Santa and for the Unicare christmas party. I might just have my mojo back.
That was a genius idea.... bug ball! Lucio looks like he had fun and you can certainly tell Aria is excited! Love the lady bug AND spiderman. He likes simple doesn't he? My J.T. does. But he would have chosen a buggy villian.
